Equilibrium

British soldiers on a foot patrol in Afghanistan working to tackle terror factions and keep locals safe in their homes. Nothing abnormal happening. They are travelling through mountainous, dry land toward a Forward Operating Base about 12km out.

Disruption

After travelling a good 7km, the soldiers spot a figure on one of the many hills. 1 turned into 2, into 3, into 4. ‘Section, Halt’ the Corporal ordered. The soldiers squinted and strained their eyes as one got out a pair of binoculars. ‘Lads get down, I think that’s a Taliban soldi-'
A cloud of lead rained across the section, ‘CONTACT!’ the Corporal shouted. The soldiers were taking fire from one of the neighbouring hills. The heart-racing adrenaline surged through each soldiers veins compelled them, but the fear of death for some stared into their soul.

Recognition of disruption

The Corporal gave the section the orders to fire. They dug into the hill and opened up on the Taliban soldiers. Each round fired painting trauma into their minds permanently.
After the firefight comes to a close, the section regrouped. ‘Is everyone green?’ The Corporal calls out. They come to see the section Radio Man limping round the crest of the hill. He was hit bad and his Long Range radio was too. It was beyond repair, and their Short Range Radios had a max distance of 4.5km. To add to this, they had discovered they were locked down into Taliban territory. The soldiers had a big task to make this out alive, as they were only prepared to travel to a different FOB and didn't have many supplies, much ammunition or time.

Attempt to solve disruption

The section medic loads the Radio Man onto a stretcher with another man carrying him on the other end. Without any further orders due to them being cut off, the section moved on. They venture through starvation, thirst, deprivation of sleep, two other attacks and the long journey ahead.
All of these events sum up to around 17 hours. The soldiers eventually reached the FOB despite not being found by several search parties.

New equilibrium

A reaction force is sent out to neutralise the Taliban within the area that the section has traversed, and the section radio man, despite almost dying reaches further medical care.  Power is reclaimed in the area and calm is restored.  They return to their work eradicating terror factions.  The team is reunited and positive.

Comments

  1. Excellent Jed - I liked the storyboard on SMHW too. I would just add that most of the New Equilibrium is actually still the attempt to resolve section. The last two sentences would be the NE.
